As a bachelor’s student in food technology (3rd Year) in Pokhara Bigyan Tatha Prabidhi Campus, Nepal, it was not so easy to perform the statistical test and use the excel software.
Recently, I attended the training program; basic level training on excel, spss, design expert and endnote, organized by Nepal Food Technology Students Association (NEFTSA), supported by Pokhara Bigyan Tatha Prabidhi Campus and YPARD Nepal held on 26th and 27th January 2019. Twenty-five students participated in the workshop.
The main objective of the training was to provide adequate knowledge to the students studying food technology about Excel, SPSS, Design Expert and Endnote, which might be beneficial for them during their thesis data analysis and in their professional lines. The training was a good platform for all the B. Tech undergraduates’ students aiming for the thesis work.
On the first day of the training, soon after the inauguration session, we worked on Data Excel. The best thing about the first day was using a pivot table for the data analysis, especially for the big data. My senior used to take a long time in constructing chart but after this workshop, I can construct very quickly.
On the second day, we worked on SPSS. We learned the basics of SPSS; it is Data view and variable view alongside with the various types of data. The trainer had practically given the examples on different types of data such as qualitative and quantitative. We also worked out in one way and two-way ANOVA (Least Significant Difference and Honestly Significant Difference). We also learned a brief understanding of Design Expert and EndNote.
It was a good program for the students preparing for their thesis work. I got an opportunity to broaden my knowledge regarding the analysis and interpretation of data which will play a significant role in my future career.
It was a good learning platform for other students as well. The training had helped me to analyze my research data efficiently and interpret them correctly. However, the program only covered the basic knowledge on excel, SPSS, design expert and endnote. So, we are looking forward to entertaining such training furthermore from NEFTSA, Pokhara Bigyan Tatha Prabidhi Campus and YPARD Nepal to utilize this knowledge further.
At last, I would like to convey my huge gratitude to the organizer committees for organizing this program and, I would like to thank our tutor Mr. Abhishek Khadka, Country Representative of YPARD Nepal for teaching and guiding us throughout.
